You've invested in a beautiful silk pillowcase — now let's make sure it lasts. Silk gets a reputation for being high-maintenance, but the truth is, caring for it properly takes just a few extra minutes and makes a world of difference.
Step 1: Always Check the Label
Before anything else, check the care label on your specific pillowcase. At Silky & Co., our pillowcases are designed to be as easy-care as possible, but it's always good practice to confirm.
Step 2: Hand Wash or Use a Delicate Cycle
The safest option is hand washing in cool water with a gentle, pH-neutral detergent. If you use a machine, place your pillowcase in a mesh laundry bag and select the delicate or silk cycle with cold water.
Step 3: Never Use Harsh Detergents
Avoid bleach, fabric softeners, or detergents with enzymes — these break down silk fibres over time. Look for detergents specifically formulated for silk or delicate fabrics.
Step 4: Don't Wring It Out
After washing, gently press the water out — never twist or wring. Roll the pillowcase in a clean towel to absorb excess moisture.
Step 5: Air Dry Away from Direct Sunlight
Hang your pillowcase to dry in a shaded, well-ventilated area. Direct sunlight can fade and weaken silk fibres. Never tumble dry.
Step 6: Iron on Low Heat if Needed
If your pillowcase needs ironing, use the lowest heat setting and iron on the reverse side while slightly damp. Even better — smooth it out by hand while wet and let it air dry flat.
How Often Should You Wash It?
Once a week is ideal. This keeps oils, skincare products, and dust from building up while preserving the fabric.
With the right care, your Silky & Co. pillowcase will stay smooth, lustrous, and effective for years. Explore our full silk collection →
